Here we are again! Hello.

I haven’t posted for a while – didn’t feel like it I suppose…still painted and drew though. Daily.

Just coming out of a ” just like painting music” phase actually.

It’s not easy to explain, but I’ll try.

Whatever I do visually is intrinsically woven with music.

I like being guided or influenced by melodies. Soundscapes. Textures in the air.

I’ve enjoyed basing my brushstrokes on the regularity of a rhythm.

A lot of recent work has tended toward the circular: mandalas and flowers or a mixture of the two. A hopeful dab of paint on the beat rises from a leaf, spirals round in a petal pattern.

I think: I like it – wonder if I could do another? As if it comes from the same plant. Let me try…

It’s like an inquiry. Also, I’m aware of an artist who painted flowers beautifully who came before me; Winifred Nicholson. She’s looking over my shoulder!

Next, what seems to have happened was the slowing down of my mark making. A snail could crawl quicker across the canvas than my brush. I’m watching my hand. And I’m looking at how each new stroke interacts with what I did a moment before. And I’m anticipating or envisioning what needs to come afterwards.

What was I thinking as I started this picture?

I’ll check back on my remembering tree.

Oh yes – still life with fields was in my mind for some reason.

But it’s changed so much since then.

It’s field life with stills now. That’s better.
